Tourette Syndrome

Tourette Syndrome is one of those nervous disorders that can attract alot of attention and cause the sufferer distress and embarrassment. Tourette Syndrome causes the person who has it to perform  involuntary movements that range from physical symptoms to saying words and phrases that either are nonsensical, or that are considered obscene or sometimes racial slurs. When a child is afflicted with this it can be tough because they may not understand what is wrong with them, and they could get teased or made fun of by their peers.

However, when you have Tourette Syndrome it does not always need to be this way. Depending on how the individual manages the tics of this disorder, Tourette Syndrome does not need to be an embarrassing or limiting problem. However, it is much easier to gloss over the condition if it is minor because other people could just think that the movements and noises are happening because the person fidgets a lot or something.

But, there are things you can do to help manage Tourette Syndrome. A lot of children who are afflicted with it see the symptoms wane over time. This is especially true if the symptoms are not severe. There are some medication that one can take that will help manage the Tourette Syndrome so that the symptoms become less apparent. However, taking medication is not the only way to treat and manage this disorder.

Many people will experience Tourette symptoms when under stress or when feeling very anxious. The goal, then, would be to eliminate the stressful situations or gain coping strategies to reduce and minimize stress and anxiety. The combination of a  good therapist and psychiatrist will help a person work through all of these problems.
