I love this movie. I like the scene where they're in the elevator and at about 5:09 you hear a woman say "Holy mother of God." There's a woman who turns around (seemingly surprised) to look at whoever said that. As if it was not scripted.

I saw this movie when I was 11 years old and loved it ever since! We used to play it all the time- throughing actaul bricks off the roof until one of them hit the sliding glass window below! Some studio (i think universal will not be able to do a remake because the fired which affected them), but other one should do a new movie about an earthquake, it would be cool see how they can destroy in many ways los angeles and its new towers and different places who aren't exist when they made this 70s movie. Evita never said women were inferior to men. You have to keep her in context. She was operating in a macho Hispanic country in the 40s and 50s when women were not supposed to be in public life. In this context, she was revolutionary. The most she said was that a woman's place should be in devotion to her husband's cause -- but that a woman needed to make sure the man and the cause were worthy of the devotion. This was a means of justifying her role in government, which many didn't like.

Andrew Lloyd Webber writes beautiful music. One of my fondest memories is sitting only a few rows from the stage at the Winter Garden on Broadway where I saw "Cats." Later, we were allowed to walk on to the stage during intermission where an actor signed Playbill programs for us. However, ALW is not a historian. The "Evita" of the musical bears almost no resemblance to the Eva Peron of true Argentine history. Even her detractors acknowledge this.

I think people just enjoy saying that because it's so glamorous. I just read the chapter in the Fraser/Navarro book where they address this issue. They say that many of her jewels were gifts from visiting dignitaries and other governments.

She didn't get a "cool" reception from the Pope. She got the usual reception. In contrast to her visit to Spain, where she was treated as royalty, it seemed a bit of a let-down, however. But she wasn't negatively received.
