You can say that again. At least the RL-7 rocket and its descendants (the Vostok and Soyuz rockets) had probably one of the best track records as compared to the Atlas, Delta, and Titan rockets we launched between 1960 and today. And as demonstrated between 1:06 and 1:40, the Soviets had the decency of having a launch escape system (derived from the Mercury LES) that save its two-man Soyuz T-10-1 crew from certain death, something NASA never had for the Shuttle.

It was the Nedelin Catastrophe but I wouldnt know what those guys were doing. I know a lot of people couldnt escape the fireball because there was a security fence stopping them, so a lot of people who where actualy on fire didnt knew what to do because they were trapped.

Question: What was going on with those two people at 19 seconds? They looked like they were on fire (standing IN the fire, in fact), but seemed to simply be hopping up and down and in no particular hurry to run from the flames or anything. O_o Was that footage from the Nedelin Catastrophe? I know people got stuck in the fresh tar when it melted and weren't able to run. Were those people trying to move their feet and just couldn't, hence the bizarre hopping?
