NASA is only a cover agency, with no real space program. It's all fake!

how bout the other countries in the world can find someone else to feed them why does america have to come to the aid all the time

Addendum: NASA's budget is less than 1% of the entire US federal budget...
By: babgab. on 19 Aug 08, 19:54:52
Not really. The world's population is far too high already, I'm not sure we should be taking steps that will result in it being even HIGHER. In any case, the paltry $17 billion NASA uses for ALL its operations is nothing compared to the $600 billion or so used by the US Department of Defense. Which program would you rather used in "food for kids all around the world": a program that is constructive, like NASA, or one that results in people being blown up, like the DoD?

I traveled to Cape Canaveral from Maryland to watch the STS-118 launch and it was well worth the trip! I definitely want to see another shuttle launch or two before the program is retired. Hail Endeavour, Discovery, and Atlantis! :)

i do think these machines are awesome but... dont you think that the money spent on that should be used in food for kids all around the world?? y think we should have priorities...does anyone agree?

rumors keep circulating that NASA is looking at a system based on Soyuz. Can anyone find information to confirm/deny this?
By: countryflyboy. on 31 Jul 08, 07:47:31
it might be something with location, as you have to have certain angelsand math issues. laws of phisics governs how you can enter space. but dont quote me on that. im probly wrong

Yeah check out the book Too far from home by Chris Jones. Fascinating getting a fly on the wall perspective of it all. There are many things going on! So much potential for disaster, a woodpecker could send everyone up in a massive fireball. A damaged o-ring could do the same. Their strapped onto the largest meanest rocket ever made.

One astronaut who refused to give a name admitted that he was scared to death of shuttle launches but accepted the danger as part of the job. He admitted that the launches were what he hated the most about the job. Interesting hearing that. I can see why. If I were in his place, I think I'd be crapping my knickers too during take-off!

Why can't England produce a shuttle? I don't see what's stopping them. They have the technology and infrastructure. I understand money is always a huge issue but still, why can't England make a shuttle? Land isn't an issue. A launch from a sea platform could be done and, in fact, might be safer.

Yes the SRB's have chutes
By: rudeboyzero. on 03 Jul 08, 13:26:21
The fuel tanks are made of metal, and covered by a sprayed on foam thermal protection system.

awesome
By: KitsuneofHope. on 29 Jun 08, 16:01:20
-nods and tailwags- you'd be correct, they never show it but the tops of the SRB's are like the old command modules of Apollo and gemeni and soon Orion fitted to have parachutes in them.
By: cmarcallen. on 27 Jun 08, 15:26:32
Interesting. How do the SRB's survive the high impact in the water? I mean nothing else would survive an impact in the water from hundreds of thousands of feet up. I'm guessing maybe they have parachutes that deploy to soften the splashdown?
By: KitsuneofHope. on 27 Jun 08, 15:23:51
cmarcallen the boosters are, but the fuel tank is made of a high polymer carbon-carbon foam that burns up upon re-entry. The group that salavages the SRB's is called Harbor Branch,
