Tiamat themselves, at least in my opinion are not a doom metal band. They give some of their songs Doom metal sounds and elements, but if you listen to alot of their songs, they are not all as full of despair and gloom as true Doom metal. However, I love this band, very good music, and a great song. And Black metal is as it is...black metal, usual about the dark nature of man and is usual satanic by it's very nature. And it's sound is more active and up beat then Doom metal.

Yeah, I mean I agree...why cover it? It wasn't just the melody and the lyric that made this song a meaningful, it was its presentation and the original context in which it was created. In fact, that is why its almost meaningless to cover most Beatles songs. They had their own distinct presentation and atmosphere that can never be recreated. Drop it. Theres an old age and a new age to everything. They are two different styles. Both have strengths. Give the new singer some slack. Don't get me wrong the band isn't the same with out Tarja and I miss her too but its ok for them to have a change. No, this is Tarja through the whole thing. They redid the "Sleeping Sun" song and music video for "Highest Hopes: The Best of Nightwish", and this is the result. The "Old Sound, New Video" video is just where the person put the "Oceanborn" version of "Sleeping Sun" with the "Highest Hopes" version of the video. Anette is not anywhere in this... Notice that it was made in @005, and Anette didn't join the band until 2007.

This song is awesome! I really love it! I think that this new version is better than the original one. Anyway, it's a very emotional song... the first part from the beginning to 0:29 gives me goosebumps, it makes me want to close my eyes and think of breathtaking mountain landscapes under a red purple-paved sky with the first rays of sun dawning in the horizon!!! I never listened to Nightwish for the voices. They both have there good and bad. I listened because I can relate emotionally to the lyrics and generally dark feel of the music. I love Tuomas's symbolism. I love his poetry, and I love how he makes it something haunting and beautiful. Each Nightwish song has given me a chill down my spine, with both voices. Stop arguing over the voice, and listen to what made Nightwish, Nightwish; The poetry and beauty of the message contained in the lyrics.

I love both Anette and Tarja, so no one attack me :P but I like the older version of the song but the new video better. I like Anette's vocals, but Tarja has such a beautiful voice, I prefer it when she uses it properly. This sounds like Tarja's stifling her talent. Of course, if I'd never heard the older version, I'd probably love this one :)

This version of sleeping sun is the absolute best. I actually prefer all of the live end of an era versions to the cd. It's a rare occasion when a live performance can't match or even top a studio recorded track. Just a testament to how amazing Tarja is as an artist. A master of her craft.
