how did they sell out there 3rd record sounds just like there 2nd record just in a more grandiouse style....and these bands while good lacked the teath or the care to be big....texas is the reason broke up over major label signage.....my chem did not just waltz into music the lead singer almost didnt make it to the third record as he did pills and was an acolholic and did these things to try and give his fans a better show as he felt he needed to do those things to be the him every one wanted

I really don't think its deserved to me they are just another boy band that sell out at arenas, thats all they are just another overrated pop band. It scares me that these are the type of bands that are going to be remembered from these times, and the ones that are acctually good and do deserve to play arenas will be forgotten by the majority.

he said that he looks up to queen and trys to give a live show of that magnatude every time he plays....and queen isnt imaculate amazing to be sure but the drums to we will rock you and the bass to under pressure is catchy but easy to learn and play....and again they played a sold out arena of a quarter of a million in mexico city and played madison square garden its hard to not belive you arnt one of the biger bands right now when you do stuff like that..if it is deserved is debateable to some.

i didn't mind when they were a small band who had a track or two on the tony hawks pro skater games or whatever but now they have gotten big they have gotten arrogant comparing themselves to Queen and saying they are better than bands that they arnt even close to being as good on a lyrical or musical basis.

guitar freak needs to listen to some non-radio-single death cab; if you like IWFYITD than the rest of the songs on Narrow Stairs besides Possess Your Heart should be pretty appealing, and even that song has a sweet 4 minute intro before the words even start that's worth a listen.

GEER was the first one i got and for some reason it just bores me; Sandinista! is anything but boring. i like tommy gun though. they just came so close to becoming a charicature of themselves. saved by going in a diffrent direction.

Ah God I try not to think of Cut the Crap fuck Bernie Rhodes and fuck Joe for letting Bernie write songs. But thats my point it was punk but it was Clash punk it actually sounded good and had structure. Geer sounds nothing like old rock its a bit poppier with stuff like stay free but the songs are all about things that have happened to them. I never liked the album till I listened to it properly and I found alot of interesting little things in itjust the drums and bass little things mostly addup

actually cut the crap is the worst and the clash peaked when they began to experiment (London Calling). GEER is so contrary to their message cos it sounds like led zeppelin and such like it's boring old hard rock again and the quality of the songs is awful and they have no depth, whereas sandinista has a lot of depth but the songs aren't good either. their first album is the best punk album but let's be honest, punk was a hugely important movement but the quality was very rarely good.

Well the Clash never did copy the pistols to a whole I mean ok both bands were about image mostly but the Clash actually had music to back them up the Pistols although good weren't as talented. But with The Clash although they were punk they didn't sound like other punk bands you can tell the difference right away because they always had their own sound and it did carry through every album but sandinista is by far their worst because they tried to do something they didn't know how too soon.

Sandinista! is the clash creating their sound instead of (joe admits this himself) just copying the pistols. the songs carry the clashes powerful political views by mixing black and white music a beautiful piece of work as it has a unifying effect and fuck how they became popular! but i guess i love it because it helped me realise that rock music is not the only kind. Combat Rock is a very strange album every song is like each member of the band is playing a different song!

Well yes but The Clash became popular for being a punk band and give em enough rope sounds more like a punk album than sandinista plus the Clash had their own sound even then which you hear clearly on the first two albums. But with Sandinista they experimented more because they had just been to New York and heard alot of new stuff to them and they got interested and strayed from their original sound to try and form a new one which u later hear on combat rock and done much better than sandinista

Buy it and learn to appreciate the boundries they were pushing even if the music isn't actually that great. it's like gin & tonic you have to learn to like it. give 'em enough rope is just very dodgey to me (or rather not dodgey enough) because it's a solid album but they take no risks which is what i love about the clash the fact that they are anything but safe. P.S. you cant say that that one clash song sounds more like the clash then another because surely they dictate what they sound like.

See I like geer because it stil sounds like the Clash nothing added just what they had available gutair drums bass and vocals and there are good sounding catchy songs. But sandinista is full of alot of songs and in my pinions its mostly bad mixed with the ocasional good song. I actually think that if they took the good songs off Sandinista they would have had a good 10 track album but I havn't heard the album in so long I dunno what good songs are on it (I don't own it borrowed it)

I find Sandinista to be their "what the hell do we wanna do period" they were experimenting alot with different musical styles and trying new things which im all for but they didn't quite know how to do it. for me I love Give em Enough Rope just think it has some of their best songs like safe european home, all the young punks and Stay Free. Every1 says London Calling is their best I think its a great album not a bad song on it but I wouldn't say its their best sounds too perfect for me lol.

ah no I wasn't saying they were fake its just during that whole period Paul and Topper were off making a film and stuff so alot of stuff on the sandinista album isn't actually Paul or Topper playing but it is the parts they wrote. You are the first person I have ever seen say they love sandinista I personally think its a terrible album lol.
