I believe that the reason people is saying he's s**t and thinks his ideas are way off is because he's being forced to turn his usual 4-day conference into a 20-minute lesson. If you'd like, navigate around to some "Unleash the Power Within" (UPW) videos. You may find this to be a little more coherent and helpful. The movie is 'The Road To Nashville.' Marty's back up singers were Bobby Sykes aka Bob Bishop and Don Winters. The guitarist on the 'Devil Woman' 45 was Grady Martin, but on here it is Marty's longtime guitarist Jack Pruett. Why was his voice so great? It was smooth, emotional and he could use it like a musical instrument breaking out into the most wonderful falsetto. Nobody else ever sounded like him; he was unique.

Yes this is a great story, and I love how he explained how when he lost everything, it only drove him to strive to become better! I always think back to this story on how he lost his dog, and think that sometimes in life we have to sacrifice everything to achieve things that we could only imagine! You really can tell the difference, but it still is amazing what Merle can do...not just here, but also with Cash and others. But most amazing is what he is on his own. You know, alot of newer artists have tried to capture the magic of the older generation I've noticed. The reality, is though, that marty, and merle, and several others were all close friends you know. I got to see Mary LIVE at the Boone county fairground in ILL years ago. He had that same guitar, must be his favorite. It appears to be a 3/4 size and I thought it neat the way he held it. He had a voice like no other. Love his music, his style. When I learned he had died, it really hit me hard, I could always turn on his music when feeling down and it would cheer me up. I was so down, I took the next day off work and just puttsed around the house and yard listening to his cassettes.

I am not sure about the guitar itself, but the player was Jack Pruett. Pruett was Marty's guitarist for almost his whole career. I always thought the guitar was a Gibson Les Paul, but I could be incorrect. Regardless, he was fantastic!

I seen Marty back in the mid 70's when i was about 10. My dad was/is a huge fan, he asked me to go down front and take a photo of Marty singing. When i got down front, Marty seen me and asked me up on stage, he joked around with me and got huge laughs from the crowd, i was later asked to go back stage with my dad. To this day it was the high light of my dads life. Marty was a bonafide Gentleman folks, and a hell of a good guy.
