I think it was to reflect that the music he was making was so different. If you check the liner notes of a record like 'On The Corner' by no means a traditional Jazz record, he was leaving his older style behind in favour of sonic exploration and I think he wanted to represent that in his clothing and stage presentation. Rap in those days was performed by artists who showed their talent in their deep lyrics that educated the masses, unlike what we hear today, which only encourage to follow a negative lifestyle. I consider myself lucky to have gone to HS in NYC where I was exposed to the Tribe, Black Sheep, Leaders of the new school, dela soul, pharcyde, KRS One, and others like them.

Interesting, but the whole problem is that great scientists should stop being puppets in hands of idiotic, power hungry and existencially blind politicians. Every great discovery should be shared around the world and not belong to any particular country. I hope humanity will wake up soon.
