I completely understand. This church has some different beliefs, but it has many similar ones as well. They believe in the Book of Mormon; they believe Joseph Smith was a prophet; they believe in the restoration of priesthood; and so forth. I watched the entire video. Just as the term "Christian" refers to a religion rather than a church, so can the term "Mormon".

Most people still associate the term mormon with the Church of Jesus Christ of LDS, so it's not correct to say that the FLDS are practicing current mormon beliefs. If you want to consider the LDS to have broken off from the FLDS, I don't really care, but the fact is that the FLDS started after its founders were excommunicated from the LDS church because they continued to practice polygamy.

Certainly, if u only consider the practice of polygamy among all the doctrine/beliefs existed in early Mormonism to be the determining factor, then the LDS Church did appear to have split from the FLDS, as history clearly points it out. However, history also supports the fact that the FLDS parted away from even more Mormon doctrine/beliefs that existed from the very beginning (unlike polygamy, which wasn't taught/practices in the beginning), which the LDS Church still follows.

Although there are HUGE differences between the LDS & FLDS Churches, the FLDS Church is, and have a right to, self-identify themselves as LDS just as LDS is, and are, self-identified as a Christian Church. I am LDS and I although I STRONGLY disagree with the FLDS, I respect and agree with their claim of being classified as being a "Mormon" based Church. Google "Restorationist Movement" and you'll learn that the LDS and its splinter groups are a branch of Christianity.

Mainstream LDS still believe polygamy will be practiced in the afterlife. My LDS uncle is married for eternity to 2 women. It's typical spinelessness for the LDS to dismiss the FLDS as lunatics. Actually, from an outside point of view, it appears that it is the LDS that broke from the FLDS, not the other way around. The FLDS are practicing the mormon beliefs JUST AS Joseph Smith and Brigham Young and the the next leaders UNTIL Utah law threatened the practice of polygamy. THEN the LDS split, the FLDS remained true to the original cultish practice. History supports this.

It also does not make sense to me. The lds and the flds are tapping from the same book. They believe in J.S. and his theachings. It is my understanding that the FLDS don't consider themselves Mormons. At least that's the impression I got from an interview to a former member of that religion when someone asked her something about the "Mormon Church" and she said she wouldn't know because she's not that familiar with Mormon beliefs.

We will, once everyone understands the real name is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Here's an example from The Book of Mormon. In Alma 18:26,28 -- Ammon taught with the phrase "Great Spirit" so Lamoni would understand him. Then Ammon could connect the term "Great Spirit" with the concept of "God." Likewise, friends of other faiths search for and understand the term Mormon. By using that term, we then have a common understand and can then teach them the true name of the Church.

Then please...please explain Stephens vision and he was being stoned? I have no idea how you tie John 14:16-18 to the whole 1 thing. If you read John 15, he says the same thing and clearly explains how the process works. "But the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in My name he will teach you all things and bring all things unto your remembrance....." I guarantee that Jesus did not look like an Aryan! No way was he even a little bit blond. Most probably he looked like a typical middle-easterner - brown eyes, dark/tanned skin, dark hair. It just seems that each church has their own special message/messenger that makes them superior. Catholics have the Pope. Protestants have Martin Luther. Mormons have Joseph Smith. Adventists have Ellen White. Christian Science has Mary Baker Eddy. Etc. To me, every Christian sermon or Bible study should begin and end with the words of Jesus. Paul didn't do this, and no one seems to have done this for 2,000 years...

Oh, I get it, the Articles of Faith are what mormons do NOT believe. So, it should be "Articles NOT of our Faith". If the Articles of Faith are so bad why doesn't the mormon church repudiate them?
