They are rewarded by the REAL fans. Other bands liek Panic! At THe Disco and whatnot have a bunch of screaming 14 year old girls, and they're famous. Those girls couldn't care less about what kind of music they play as long as they sound cute and poppy and are attractive. Menos El Oso is appreciated fully by all of their fans because they're that much better. IMO of course. I love panic! and minus, but i think it has to deal with the kind of crowd/fans that the music/genre brings it.

I assume you're meaning the band (not the song, because that's way different) and after listening very carefully to both Death Cab for Cutie, I must say that they may be sort of the same genre. There are however significant differences. For one, Death Cab for Cutie is more generic, while +/- is more experimental. (They've written songs in 5/4, 7/4 and 10/4) I guess that +/-'s inspiration is older than DCfC and that they're doing a different thing altogether.
