Shannon Hoon was a friend of mine. It's good to see his music is still appreciated 13 years after his death. I remember this song especially, because when Shannon first got fame and glory, he bought a beautiful early 70's Cadillac. But, he didn't feel himself in it...and he found a 67 (I think) Galaxie 500 while on the road. He identified more with the 500 then the Caddy, hence the line in the chorus in this song. This is such a sad video to watch. Shannon Hoon was a genius. Blind Melon crossed markets of Phish (and to some extent Greatful Dead) and Jane's Addiction. I understand his trouble with drugs. I myself battled a coke, meth, crack... you name it addiction. My life was simple compaired to his. "Everybody's life's got static. You're life fucking perfect?" Heathers quote. I think it's about the different personalities that we all seem to have. Shannon is talking to the demon inside himself that keeps squelching his happy side. He could've been talking about his addiction... but he could've been talking about the part of him that just feels sad or discontent with life. He is addressing both personalities in the song.

Shannon was awesome in the 3 1/2 years blind melon was together they achieved so many goals like going triple platinum with no rain.Also No Rain was #1 on the us mainstream rock and roll chart's they played at Woodstock 94.They also played at lalapalooza back in the 90's.Rolling Stone interviewed them.A fucking great band I think blind melon was one of the greatest band of the 90's.

Im sorry to disagree with almost all of you first of all.. I don't believe Travis Warren (new lead singer) is trying to replace or out-do Shannon.. Secondly I don't think they are trying to package this new band off as Blind Melon to try and ride the coattails of their former success. I think the original members of the band and Travis keep the name in memory of Shannon to praise him. I feel Shannon wouldn't have wanted the name to die with him. But that's just my take on that..
