I don't agree with your definition of 'racism', but otherwise, I'm 100% with you. I found nothing wrong with Wright's comments and most certainly there was nothing racist about them, either in his interview with Moyers or in that sermon that so many heard a short soundbite from.

In the 70's opening strategic reserves may have made a difference in price. Today it would not. America is no longer the only strong source of oil demand - see India, and China... Regulating traders would lower prices. The only thing that's really going to help - is getting off oil.

Given what we now know, I wouldn't be surprised if the oil markets aren't being manipulated to "shock" the public into complacency over iraqi and their oil interests. Why haven't they opened the strategic reserves to bring the price down? After all, one of the main reasons for establishing it in the 70s was to stabilize the market during times of scarcity. They aren't opening the reserves because they don't want the price brought down. Simple.
