His section mate, a Jones band stalwart, was Red Ballard, who went on to join the fledgling Benny Goodman Orchestra in 1934 and stayed for six years. It has been written that Jones used both a string bass and a brass bass on most of his recordings. The truth is that he used both for the first time on his last session with Victor in 1934. He continued using both when he moved to Decca for awhile. One of the best examples of hearing them play together is on "I've Found A New Baby" recorded for Decca in 1934. It's also one of the hottest records Jones ever made. FRED

I was assuming that it would be the same vocalist as on the record. Rust says its Frank Sylvano. However, an RCA Victor LP reissue says its Frank Hazzard. After listening to several records of all of them I think you're right - but they do sound fairly similar.

Isham Jones led one of the finest dance bands of the 20's and wrote several standards, such as "It Had To Be You", "I'll See You In My Dreams", "Swingin' Down the Lane" and "The One I Love Belongs to Somebody Else". This excellent record was made for Brunswick on October 2nd, 1925.

Great arrangement, as one would expect from the band of Isham Jones. The only down side to this recording is that it's one of the earliest Brunswick "Light-Ray" electrical records, which varied in quality from bad to atrocious. That explains the rather muffled sound of the recording.
