as awesome as the 69 eyes are...they are essentially just a rip off of Type O Negative... face the facts...the 69 eyes had a completely different sound and totally different vocals in their early days...its funny how it took until about 1999-2000 for them to get their current sound...especially the deep, baritone vocals... They copied peter steele of type o negative and the use of keyboards... so there you have it-- the 69 eyes rock..but they are copycats of a better band.

Lucky lucky lucky bastard. I live down near Atlanta, and apparently no highly respected musician wants to come anywhere near the bumfuck South cause I never get to see any good bands live here. Occasionally some really good bands pass by, but I don't think I'm gonna get to see the big-time, experimental kind of musicians and bands like Beck or Bjork or Radiohead any time soon here. Hell I probably couldn't afford it anyway, or I wouldn't be fast enough to get a ticket.

I saw him perform this song LIVE on Monday night in Montréal...it was a complete and utter mindf*ck, not an empty seat in the house, tickets were completely sold out from the 1st day they went on sale, the entire crowd went BALLISTIC!! What I like about Beck is that he is a true poet (much like Frank Black of the Pixies) in that he takes a bunch of words that don't seem to make much sense together, yet still get a reaction from you. How can you not react to a line like "stealing kisses from the lepers' faces" when you hear it. I love the little ride my mind has to take trying to make sense of his words.

Worth it is a hard question... will it be rewarding for you as a pianist? certainly! But honestly, an audience is going to give a few claps for that as an appreciation of the technical aspects of it, but then they might give you a standing ovation on a Beethoven sonata for which you did not put in as much work... But its easy to practice because its a lot of the same thing therefor drilling is effective, but ultimately it is very difficult to memorize and to make sound like more than an etude

Aside from the pure power and relevance of the lyrics, the song amazes me on a musical level. What seems like such a quiet song has the guitar gradually building just under the lyrics - it starts from nowhere but gradually adds an awesome sense of urgency, power and energy to the lyrics. Thanks Bruce ... this is a masterpiece - this is "art" and there isn't an awful lot of it out there (despite the frequent use of the term).

I think what makes this song so powerful is that, like all springsteen songs, it just doesn't apply to the current times or one type of person, its for every single person who feels like they've lost themselves and haunted by things in their past, in a sense their soul is gone and all thats left is "devils and dust"

I know what you mean. It went downhill ever since they killed off Jonathan Kent. I still watch the show only because they always seem to do the most interesting shows at the very end of the season. The first half is always boring. The songs they use on the show are still pretty good.

I find it staggering that Christians think fossils are the work of Satan. Considering the careful geology which goes into determining the terrain that the various geological sediments represent and the linkage of fossils found in those rocks to the terrain the rocks, it seems an open and shut matter. You don't find desert dwelling bones in swamp sedimentary rock. There is no duplicity present, the ancient Hebrews were just wrong about an awful lot of things in the world.
