grastog1313 said " For one example in Asia, Google "Climate Change Impacts, Vulnerability, and Adaptation in Asia". The problem is that agricultural losses to date have been minor compared to what might be expected if CO2 emissions are not curtailed. They do, however, indicate the urgency of the need to act" So as you say above, nothing has happened yet, and your doom is only in the "might be" and "indicate" future that only is in cp models

The impact of CO2-driven warming on crop failures, via droughts, floods, insect infestation, etc., does not reflect new phenomena, but rather an increase in hazards that occur naturally at lower intensities. For one example in Asia, Google "Climate Change Impacts, Vulnerability, and Adaptation in Asia". The problem is that agricultural losses to date have been minor compared to what might be expected if CO2 emissions are not curtailed. They do, however, indicate the urgency of the need to act.

grastog1313 So where in Asia is your "floods, droughts, crop failures, and economic losses" That is anything that has not been seen before?
By: solargw. on 04 Sep 08, 16:40:43
Salamandra09 So in Brazil you are "Get real, we are fucking the world up, that's obvious. But I've never seen a cancer to cure its host" But in the USA we are cleaner than ever
By: grastog1313. on 04 Sep 08, 16:21:36
Salamandra - I think you have it backwards. The Earth will survive regardless of what we do, but human civilization is endangered by unabated anthropogenic warming. That's not to say humans will become extinct (although prehistoric climate shifts have been accompanied by massive species extinctions), but rather that the welfare of millions will be impaired. Some of the consequences - floods, droughts, crop failures, and economic losses - are already apparent in Asia and elsewhere.

Get real, we are fucking the world up, that's obvious. But I've never seen a cancer to cure its host. Now, more than ever, we have to be realistic, planet Earth can not survive if we keep existing...
By: grastog1313. on 04 Sep 08, 10:16:24
To answer solargw, CO2-driven warming accounts for most warming of the past 40 years, and part of the warming, along with solar, during the first half of the 20th century. Almost all the Earth's heat comes from the sun, but we're concerned not with temperature per se, but changes in temperature. Solar irradiance has been flat for decades and played only a minor role in warming since the 1970s compared with CO2. Re sea level - mean rate of rise since 1990 via satellite altimetry = 3 mm/year.
By: solargw. on 04 Sep 08, 09:46:01
redcrow2006 NO ONE EVEN THE IPCC says that the water level; will raise over a foot or two in the next 100 years. You must have watched Al's movie where he implies that the water will raise a giant amount with a visual that shows wall's of water, nothing could be farther from the truth. At the current raise it would take 300 years for a 1 foot raise in sea levels

Point is if we don't do something your children will be living on boats if they're living at all.
By: solargw. on 04 Sep 08, 08:58:58
so, what your point
By: solargw. on 04 Sep 08, 08:58:34
grastog1313 You know or should know that when you say " CO2 is known to drive warming whether in the modern era" is very misleading as the statement is true BUT how much of a warming force is it compared to say the big ball of fire (1,000,000 times larger than earth) in the sky and or solar winds that effect cloud formation, that's the real question. So in other words does that one tree burning in a forest fire drive the fire or is it an effect of all the other trees burning?
By: grastog1313. on 04 Sep 08, 08:38:03
The myth that CO2 only follows warming but does not drive it persists in venues (such as YouTube) where most readers don't have access to the science literature. In fact, CO2 is known to drive warming whether in the modern era, where it preceded warming by about 50 years, and prehistorically, where CO2 often followed warming from orbital forcing (e.g., by 800 years), but then exerted its own warming effects. For actual literature data spanning 420 million years, see Royer, Nature 446:530, 2007.

solargw I see you used the term normal.
By: kfw38C. on 04 Sep 08, 08:36:42
Solargw...I fully expect you to keep banging away on your lag argument as it is one is a cornerstone logical fallacy. Have you read the research of Cuffey and Vimeux?
By: solargw. on 04 Sep 08, 08:11:09
jojube27 our planet is not sick, its only the fear mongers that make people think that way. Look around there is nothing wrong with planet earth ALL weather we are having is well within the normal that make up an average
By: jojube27. on 04 Sep 08, 07:47:44
I cannot predict the future and I try to be aware of my surroundings and what is going on in the world. I sincerely hope that you are right!! Who wants a world where humans can't exist right! We're all a part of the same planet, no matter what religion or politics or whatever background we're from. Thats the bottom line and I think that if we have the ability to make our planet "sick", than we have the ability to cure it as well.
By: solargw. on 04 Sep 08, 07:47:43
kfw38C more BS from you "There is a clear correlation between temperature rise and CO2 concentrations. Because CO2 typically lags the initial warming in a NATURAL cycle has nothing to do with the relationship between CO2 concentrations and warming" WRONG co2 ALWAYS follows temp both up and down, when temp drops it continues to increase for ANOTHER 800 YEARS before starting to drop, not much of an climate driver only an EFFECT of temp
By: kfw38C. on 04 Sep 08, 05:55:06
solargw Who said NORMAL??? Who said mandatory temp? There is a clear correlation between temperature rise and CO2 concentrations. Because CO2 typically lags the initial warming in a NATURAL cycle has nothing to do with the relationship between CO2 concentrations and warming.
By: xoftrop. on 04 Sep 08, 02:42:48
whether CO2 contributes to global warming or not.. the very fact that we are altering out atmospheric conditions will mean that we will soon (if not yet) experience the response of this planet towards atmospheric changes...global warming or not...there will eventually be a consequence to our actions.

We had an ice age! If that's not proof that it's a natural process I don't know what is. I could be wrong but I don't think they were driving SUV's to work 12,000 years ago.
