"lip syncing badly" I know, it's tragic. All those shows did it back then. I'm sure The Commodores would much rather have just performed it live. This is bad when bands were bands, and could actually play. I saw a video of the Police playing on one of these shows, and they were so annoyed at being forced to lip sync that they just totally screwed it up on purpose, playing wrong stuff, walking away from the mic, etc. Funny shit.

I'm sure someone else mentioned this in previous comments, but Lionel DID NOT sing this song during his tenure with the Commodores. Walter Orange, the group's drummer and co-lead vocalist sang this song as well as co-wrote it or wrote it by himself. This is not a Lionel Richie song and he's only singing it to try and capitalize on what has become the most recognized and widely soundtracked tune by The Commodores.
