mikuls.......this is DEFINATLY a 747 cockpit!. The A340 has digital flyby wire controls, ie joysticks.....there is clearly no joysticks in this cockpit.

This isn't a 747 cockpit. It's an Airbus A340 cockpit. And we still have hundreds of 747's flying in the USA mikerobles. Also the pilots are obviously German, not Asian. No SARS in Germany, so quit fighting about the gloves. Luftstansa does not make it's pilots wear gloves.

Thats when pilots cant let the autopilot do it, they have to land the plane by themselves, and on this airport.. it can be extremely diffcult. IGS is very spectaculare, and I know only about one airport who has it, Toncontin in Honduras. Just search at youtube

the idear with Kai Tak wass the hil there was red and white. You fly so close you can on it and when the 2nd pilot started to be nervous you make the final turn and line the aircraft up. If you diden line the aircraft up at the right time you will land wrong

It's like ILS except it does not guide you to the runway. At Kai Tak there is a sharp right turn onto the final. The turn takes place at around 600agl which lines you up with the runway. The IGS guides you to a checkerboard on a hill, double flashing lights on the ground, at which point the autothrottle is disengaged and the plane is banked sharply to the right for a landing.

I dont want to contradict you or anything, but when you apply brakes hard, your body would be propulsed forwards, not backwards because the plane is stopping, but your body isint. A fast acceleration would propulse you backwards because the plane is accelarating faster than your body. You cant defy the laws of physics.

Back in mid july I went to honduras to do some missionary work with my church we had tooken continental airlines. It was a pretty boring flight but when it came time for landing it really was a wild ride. we came so close to the ground i literaly felt like we were going to plow into somebodys house and once we touched ground the pilot slammed the breaks with such amazing force that it would throw you in the back of the plane if you were not in your seat.

Autolanding only works in conditions of max 25kts crosswind, 10kts tailwind and no windshear. Has nothing to do with clouds and fogs, i.e. can be used at any visibility and weather conditions. Crew must have autoland certification and only works for CAT III approaches. But yes, it is usually not used when there are good visual conditions.

As requested. A shorter version of the approach into Kai Tak without the music. Again, the lead in lights are barely visible through the rain as the video starts and then we get a great view of the checkerboard through to touchdown. This approach is in the rain. The other video is a little clearer but still grey out.

It does exist in the airlines. Matter of fact is the primary means for Inertial Reference System updating. Not only does it exist, but there are 2 independent GPS systems onboard, coupled with the 3 IRS's. Hi PIREP ! I use a Sony HVR-A1E using HDV footage. This approach was flown in actual CAT II weather (RVR 400m and BKN at 125Ft) SOPs are to perform an autoland on low vis approach below CAT I weather. We don't have HUDs in Emirates unfortunately ... May come on our brand new A380s though ...

Excellent video and good quality (what recorder are you using?) While the approach was flown to Cat II callout standards, the lead-in lights seemed to come into view around Cat I altitude. Was it hand flown, or a/p? If hand flown, did you use a HUD?

Yes FamousCollector you're right. When I watched this video for the first time, the fighter in the minute 6:40 seemed to me a N1K2-J Shiden-Kai, for the wings configuration. But in the second video there's an image of one plane climbing in the dogfight and is clearly a N1K1 Shiden. Happy to met another fan of japanese planes. Greetings.

Sorry pachogalvan, but you are not right. The Shidens are really N1K1-Ja Shiden (Type 11 Koh), not the N1K2-J Shiden-Kai. Please note the mid-wing configuration, the shape of the engine cowling, the shape of the tail fin and also the underwing cannon pods. Sil40SX is really correct.
