its a legend the M3 E30 it handled like a dream I'd know I had a car just like it, the only draw back was it was only available in left hand drive, and me being a brit it was a bit tricky when overtaking came into the whole driving experience. but an amazing car, wished I still had it. by far the Evo 3 2.5 was the finest BMW ever made, a ton better than the churn em out by the thousands e36 and any M3 after.

His father is a BMW CCA driving instructor. I am not going to give out any names, but the owner of the car is a great guy. The car is long gone, and was returned to a stock 2.5L for track use. The kid was caught, but was not in that video. That evening he escaped from the police. It was the following day that his parents got a phone call. I used to ask people in the 80's and 90's if they ever saw the Seven-Ups. Only about 5% knew what I was talking about. I saw this when it first came out. It was at a drive-in (remember those?) right across the street from my apt., and I saw it every night it played. Had an unobstructed view. If you look closely towards the end after the hood of the Ventura gets blown off you'll see when he steps on it and you see the engine that it has a Chevy style air filter housing. Not sure if there was a Chevy engine under it but it is a chevy housing as Pontiacs were flat. I have owned a few old pontiacs of that vintage.

The engine sounds for the Mustang in Bullitt was from a Ford GT40. They have a nice write up in wikipedia about Bulllitt. No matter what Bill Hickman was one hell of a driver. I have never seen car control in a movie as good as his.

Minor corrections: 455, "normal" size for the day, and pretty darn good handling. My aunt had one, and if she were still alive, would attest to what a great car it was. That Bill Hickman knew what he was doing when he picked that GrandVille - compared to other cars of its day in the full-size class, it handled like a sports car. He picked that '68 Charger R/T for Bullitt because it had a heavy-duty police package and stayed glued to the pavement, no matter how hard it was pushed.

GrandVille's came standard with a 455 and turbo 400 trans. The Ventura was a 350 Pontiac motor with a 4bbl and dual exhaust which was added to that car as only the GTO got the dual exhaust 350 in 74. Bill Hickman is definitely one bad ass driver. Anyone who can get a luxury boat like that GrandVille to corner like that is amazing.

I've been doing some talking around amongst former GM employees. They're familiar with this chase scene. I get the same story from all of them, which is: the Ventura was "doctored up" to sound badass, but the GrandVille was 100% REAL (combination of Radial-Tuned Suspension, widest track of any full-size car in the industry, lots of weight, and a tough-as-nails stump-puller engine). You can see how it stays stable, never bottoms out, and always "corrects" itself out of a sway.

Thank you, Amanaman544, for letting me know you had this chase scene available. I hadn't seen it in years! What cars - a 73 Pontiac GrandVille 455-4v and a 73 Pontiac Ventura 350-4v; it doesn't get any better. Yes, the GV driver also drove the Charger in Bullitt. This chase was the "best of" the chases in Bullitt and French Connection. Good luck getting a modern car to do that stuff - you bump into a lightpost at 5mph and the front end crumples up and the engine falls out!

You could get a Ventura with a Posi rear. I can tell you that 90% of the time those engine sounds are not original to the Ventura as I know what a Poncho V8 sounds like at full bore. They seemed to have gotten all of the Grand Ville's engine sounds right from that car itself. Don't know why they didn't do the same for that Ventura. I hope they weren't trying to run that big ass Grand Ville off the road cause they gonna need a lot more car than the Ventura.

Yes Glock does. I have also used Smith and Wesson and Browning, their slides also go to the rear when empty. Makes for a faster reload and you know the state of the weapon. I would hate a weapon that does not have this feature. I guess we have to know exactly what type of pistol is in the movie and how it behaves when empty. Maybe if the movie makers are smart they found one where the slide stays forward when the weapon is empty and they used it.

@ 04.06 I am wondering if it is a mistake? Normally when an automatic pistol is empty the slide goes to the rear to warn the operator to reload. The scene shows the guy clicking away on the trigger, slide forward. A real automatic pistol would have the slide to the rear when it is empty. I can understand it was a good effect for the movie but a real automatic pistol would not act that way. Perhaps something particular with that type of pistol?

This is a great camera but it has two major weak points that should be considered. Firstly you cannot convert RAW files even if you buy their expensive software. This means no sophisticated editing to professional standards and places the camera firmly in the amateur catagory- don't fool yourself otherwise. Secondly the sound on the video is- lets face it- completely crap, so unless you're taking separate sound recordings- its just for holidays.

and, yes, in normal movies they indeed use manual focus, but is not the camera operator who does it, but a second person, the "focus puller" (as you may know) which, by the way, usually is a very good and experimented professional. since non-professional people which would occasionally use D90 to film don't have an assistant neither 3 (or four) hands, the autofocus would really be of a great help. i hope that in future DSLR versions Nikon will rethink about it.

thx for the confirmation for the zoom, i also thought that it would be possible, since it depends on the optic, but you never know xD about the focus, i understand now why they dont use zoom/in and out on this propaganda vid :) it would made the image out of focus for few hundreds of milliseconds till adjust the focus. Its a pity, i wonder why they don't implement the autofocus option. thx for the reply ;)

It is possible to zoom in and out depending on what lens you use. Like a zoom lens will but primes wont. You can use any lens for the video but while recording you have to manual focus. Just like normal movies

Damn, I only bought a D80 about three months ago. Oh well, its still a great camera and I already have a good video camera that shoots at 30ffs. If I was going to upgrade a camera, I would probrably go through the effort of saving up for the D300...or whatever comes after that in about 2-3 years time.

That's not really true. In terms of depth of field, it's all about the camera (specifically the sensor), and the lens won't make much of a change at all. You could attach the most fantastic lens ever to a 1/3 inch CCD camera, but it won't make any difference to the DOF.

I think it was just an unintended effect of how the cars were driving in a zig zag path at high speed which made the car rock side to side. So then at varying moments one beam tipped closer to the camera more so than the headlight on the other side; making it appear to be lit brighter than the other one opposite. I could see how some people would think that maybe it was some Euro only headlight mode.

I've been watching this clip over and over again, and it certainly is one of the best chase scenes ever filmed, incredibly realistic, without CGI. I must say I own BMW (series 3, '89 - though), and its a fantastic car! Someone mentioned turn signals. I believe that happens when trying to pull headlight (flasher) lever, and turn the steering wheel at the same time, since the turn signals are triggered by the same lever.
