It's called a war on terror since in the Quran it says "And bring terror upon your enemies", that's why these people are called Terrorists, and instead of saying "War on the Terrorists", which would be unpractical, you simply say 'War on Terror' instead, it's much shorter and means the same thing, Hope I cleared it up for you!

Es mag durchaus sein, daß er aufgrund seines Jobs und den damit verbundenen Berührungspunkten Beckenbauer, Rummenigge etc. durchaus auch ein wenig mit dem FCB sympathisiert, das aber nur auf internationaler Ebene. I may be wrong, but i thouhgt that was rather convincing. This part was always my favorite in the movie cause of the way Kubrick told the story in the film, he was ambiguous and tried to let the movie tell the story in it's own thoughtful and cerebral way. You knew Dave was going into another time and dimension but what it was you didn't know, and that was the cool part of this movie cause the mystery made it even more awesome.

I don't think it's absolutely necessary to read the books to understand what's going on. Watch it a couple times and you'll start to get it. I do wish Kubrick had been a bit more clear in this, but it's usually his artistic nature to be ambiguous.
