Guys have you noticed the bpm is way higher than the album version? So like it's not weird Petrucci can't do a clean solo with like 20 bpm extra, blame Myung for starting at such high speed :(

Agreed, on the live cd Live at the Marquee I really love his voice, Fortune in Lies is a great song I don't hear them play much (if at all). I guess that with truly high notes he needs more exercising or maybe we need to accept that his voice has changed in some ways. Might make it possible to sing new material in a 'better' way.

Heavy isn't necessarily bad. Train of Thought is their second best album to me. It's heavy but it's still progressive at the same time (Endless Sacrifice). Of course that album doesn't come close to Images And Words :)
