A truly endearing performance which seems to define the common gap between being a father and being a dad!

Thank you for your comment. My dad will probably die soon and I'm a little scared about how I'll deal with it. About this clip, I'd thought I was going to enjoy it primarily for the campy element, but no--it was really touching. I appreciate the willingness of the actors to be vulnerable and sincere. Thanks for posting.

Thank you so much for posting this, specially in these days where dads and men in general are blamed by society for everything they say or do. This is a very touching scene and I wish I could turn back the hands of time and let my dad know how much I loved him.....all I can do now it look up to the sky and sing this beautiful song!
By: rodanvideo. on 26 Sep 08, 20:18:36
The song shows "feeling," because of two quality actors, a great song, and nice film editing and direction. I doubt that the two of them were reacting to each other. The camera shots were probably done separately. None-the-less, the product was wonderful.

Seeing Carl Betz tear up never fails to make me tear up as well. This is one of my all-time favorite T.V. shows! I can't wait to get the first season on DVD when it's released in October!
By: arfies. on 04 Sep 08, 23:49:18
I tend to agree with rodanvideo's reply to CHUCKIE1BROWN above- whether it's for GOOD or for GOD, "respect-for-others, responsibility, compassion, love, consideration" are the keys to a happy, caring, family-oriented life. Many seem to have lost them nowadays. :(

Families just don't seem to want to be together--everybody has their own agendas that don't include quality family time. I insist that my family eat at least 1 meal together as a family--even if it's carry-out or balogna sandwiches--we eat together--and, we say "GRACE" and thank the ONE WHO KEEPS US TOGETHER!!!

Yea, they could pass for real father and son, the resemblence is there as well as with Donna Reed and Shelly Fabre.
By: Dana888dana. on 06 Aug 08, 01:51:42
You know, you bring up a very valid point about the feelings communicated between these two actors--so very very real looking that it must be genuine! I can't get over how Carl Betz and Paul Petersen convey such emotions towards one another; you are right, it must really be there.

One wonders how this song went down in the presence of the many sons and dads who didn't get on. The reality is was that as father and son they were in fact very close in real life but the real emotional hook in this sing is the repeated use of the word "My." It would be impossible for someone who was anything but close to their Dad to sing it. Compare that to Dave Berry's equally shmaltzy "Mama" which in reality anyone can sing without feel personally involved.
