Yes, being a pilot takes alot of hard work, and patience, but, if you really stick with it and love flying, you will be rewarded, and it will all pay off for you. You have to stick with it, you cant quite when it gets hard, and you dont like it, you have to stick with it.

i think even if the landing is smooth, the whells will still smoke. because the wheels arent turning before touch down, so wen they touch the ground, they slide for a moment until the wheels speed up to the ground speed of the craft. thats wen the smoke stops.

At the airport I work at we olny have a mile and 3rd of runway. Nearly all the 738's will using reverse thrust right upto untill they stop. So depending on runway lenth I'm guessing the pilot flying will deside how much they will use for a safe landing and stooping of the aircraft. But i must say ive seen 757's stop much quicker then 738's.

Actually, if you use the autobrakes, using reverse or not will not modify your landing distance, because the autobrake commands a rate of deceleration to the aircraft, not a certain pressure on the brakes. Using the reversers will only lessen the effort made on the brakes, thus elevating their lifetime.

Ahhhhhhh the good old RCKH ILS09 approach, always land with quarterly tailwinds of 10 kts, maybe that's why the captain chose to use flaps 40 flightjimbo123 was right, autobrakes/manual brakes are the main source of slowing down the jetliners thesedays. try use only idle reversers you'll find only little difference in your landing distance

flaps were not designed to decelerate an aircraft, however they do by nature generate alot of drag (especially when full) at higher airspeeds. Deployed flaps will actually assist in slowing an aircraft once it touches down, but only so long as there is considerable airspeed. I forgot to add - flaps (and leading edge devices) are NOT considered a form of deceleration. There are there purely to increase the wings capability to fly at a safe angle of attack at the low airspeeds required for slow flight and landing (and to a degree takeoff).

Your statement is not totally accurate. The main source of deceleration is due to Auto braking/Manual braking. To assist this, Spoiler is used (usually automatically deployed). Reverse thrust is a non- mandatory source of braking - the aircraft SHOULD be able to stop without its use. However as with many systems/procedures in aviation is often used at the discretion of the pilot flying/airline ops as an extra means of decreasing the landing roll.

FutureSWApilot. If you've really seen as much as you say, then surely you've seen how the pilot in control often flies with one hand on the (2 handed) yoke and one hand on the throttles. How is this any different from - and safer than - the Airbus method of one hand on the sidestick, one on the throttles? Do you drive? If so, do you feel any less safe when steering one-handed? I certainly don't. I hope you overcome your sidestick phobia and come to realise they are not unsafe.

FutureSWApilot. Try watching some cockpit videos clips of non-sidestick (2 handed yoke) aircraft. During the approach/landing, the pilot in control flies with ONE HAND on the yoke and the other on the throttles. How is this different to the Airbus sidestick method? Most of the flight they fly 'no-handed' (autopilot). You're making a big fuss over nothing. You should do some research (accidents caused by sidesticks, etc) before making wild claims about their safety.

Control columns are only essential on mechanically linked (sometimes not power assisted) flying controls where a long lever arm and 2 handed yoke allow pilots to input large forces when required. Since both Boeing and Airbus now use fly by wire the signals are electrical and stick loads artificial so a small, one handed side stick is fine. For control authority a single stick is fine for an very sensitive, agile fighter so it's perfectly safe for a docile, stable airliner.

Ok thx for the info but, boeing only has one aircraft like that and none of out commerical aircraft that fly people have joysticks. Boeing helps make more advance jets than the ones you've listed(F-22)only one i can name more if you want. Not to mention out commerical aircraft such as the 737 which takes off every 5 secs in the world at anytime. We aslo do intergrated weapons systems and satilites too. Plus stealth aircraft, anything else?

Airbus is wholly owned by EADS, it's parent company, who are responsible for parts of the Typhoon and Tornado projects, numerous UAVs, Ariane rockets, satellites, missiles, a share of Dassault fighters, Eurocopter, etc, etc. In short, the company resonsible for Airbus has tons of 'government' work worldwide. Or is it more people that makes the difference? Also I'm not sure what the relevance of govt contracts means, but Airbus does have a military wing developing the A400M transport. Well flying a airbus is like playing a video game, i would be scared flying a airbus knowing that i have 600+ people in one hand LITERALLY. Also airbus doesn't have programs dealing with the gov't, as Boeing does, heres a couple planes either Boeing made for the gov't, help make or the gov't uses: F-18 hornet, F-18 super hornet, F-22A Raptor, B767. So please let me know what contracts or planes airbus has with gov't.

It's a flight strip, and pretty much its just kind of like a backup for the information in the computers, and sometimes the TRACON is located on a lower level of the tower, and they'll "push" or transfer the flight strip from CLR/GND/TWR control, to the TRACON below. Then they kind of just throw em out.

I've gotten up into O'Hares tower, but my flight school had to arrange it, and you have to fill out a load of paperwork. Even for a tower at a class D airport theres lots of stuff to fill out before you can go up.

It's simply not true to say Airbus copied Boeing or vice-versa. They build planes to compete with and improve upon their opponents design but this doesn't mean they're copying. A good idea is just that, a good idea. Not everyone can reinvent the wheel. I suspect that both companies and wanted to modify there own airplanes because they could source there own replacement parts for them at cost. If Boeing would have bought the Airbus A300-600ST they would have been at the mercy of Airbus and their suppliers for replacement parts and if you don't think Airbus wouldn't use that to there advantage you are naive.

You apparently have no idea what you're talking about. It's in the FAR's that large turbine powered aircraft must remain on or above the glideslope, and the PAPI's are generally a 3 degree glideslope that matches up with the ILS. 3 white, one red is pretty common for an airliner.

Kai Tak had an awesome reputation for being a small airport capable of taking on a huge workload. But Kai Tak was ugly and awkward with its haphazard expansion. The cured approach was hair raising and frankly, quite unprofessional for an airport to require its flights to do. Chek Lap Kok is much more beautiful.

However boeing aircraft have a different voice readout which does not have "Retard" but instead just sais altitude. 50 40 30 20 10 (usually followed by sound of touchdown and things rattling around). Most glass cockpit aircraft have GPWS, including things like Embrariers, and Dehaviland DHC8 Turboprops. Some of these only say 400 300 200 100 50 and with different voices.

All airbuses have Voice callout Altimeter which reads out fifty, fourty, thirty. At 20 feet the throttles should be closed to idle thrust in preperation for reverse thrust, the computer will say "Retard" over and over as a reminder to reduce throttle to idle. It will stop repeating once the throttle is at idle. This is why you often here "Retard Retard Ret.." with one of the repeats suddenly cut off.

Possible and legal if it's not a jet and its MTOW is under 12,500lb. Otherwise the aircraft needs to be certified for single pilot operation before it can be legally operated by only one pilot. Some small jets such as the Citation Mustang are certified like that, but never a transport jet the size of a B767. Is it possible though? yes I believe so.

I don't know the situation in Taiwan, but during the cold war there have been a large number of emergency airports on highways in both parts of Germany. The parking lots on rest stops were planned big enough so there could park several airplanes. And there were also movable towers, gas stations and pre-installed communication lines at this rest stops.
